Carpet Cleaning Tips
Here are
some helpful hints on how to keep your
rugs looking their
absolute best. These guidelines are offered only out of goodwill with
no obligation or responsibility
on the part of Babayans.
Regular Maintenance:
Vacuuming is the best and easiest maintenance. How often vacuuming
should
be done depends largely on where the rug is being used. It is most important
to keep
in
mind that frequent, sometimes daily vacuuming is the key to keeping
dirt and soil accumulation to a minimum. Therefore, traffic dictates
the frequency
of professional cleaning.
Stain Removal Tips: (Synthetic and Natural Wool Fabrics)
In the case of hand woven rugs, it is preferable to employ professional
in-plant cleaning
sevice. This service is also suggested for rugs being relocated to a
different home.
.
Immediate Action On Stains:
Synthetics and wool fibers absorb liquid spills quickly so fast action
is necessary for your best chance of removing the stain. Additionally
the following general points should be observed:
a)
Remove
any
solids
using
a
spoon
or
blunt
knife,
working
from
the
edge of
the stain
and
as
much
as
possible
in
the
direction
of
the
pile. The
exception
is
latex paint,
which
solidifies
on
rubbing.
Rinse
with water
while
blotting
up.
b) Press
absorbent
white paper
towel gently
on the
stain and
repeat
until no
more moisture
is absorbed.
c) Never rub a stain. Always blot with a paper towel or white towel.
d) Try to remove residual stain with a little lukewarm (not
hot) water containing a small amount
of dishwashing liquid and acetic acid (white
vinegar).
e)
If water fails, the next step is solvent. This must be used
sparingly and always according to the manufacturer's instructions. Always
check the
solvent manufacturer's
label for possible warning as to toxic or flammable hazards.
f)
Colour Fastness: Always test the effect of the solvent by applying a
few drops
to an unseen area of
the carpet and blot with a clean
white tissue or paper towel.
g) Never walk on a moist area of the carpet. This can distort
the pile.
