Common Carpet Stains You May Encounter with Higher Indoor Traffic

We all love the holidays. Seeing everyone in your extended family is a joy that doesn’t always happen that often. At the same time, having that many people and pets in a single home is a recipe for spills and other kinds of stains on your carpets, rugs and upholstery.

At Babayan’s we offer carpet steam cleaning and rug, oriental rug, and upholstery cleaning to the entire Toronto area. For really tough stains and for regular maintenance of your rugs and carpets, we’re here for you. For the smaller stuff, however, here are a few tips on how to quickly and efficiently deal with common spills and stains:

Pets
Our pets are our best friends and an important part of the family. Unfortunately, they don’t always appreciate that as much as we’d like. Whether it’s dirt, food, or unique animal odours, pets find a lot of different ways to make a mess in our homes (particularly if there are multiple pets in the house for the holiday). For urine or stool stains, speed is essential. Remove any offending material as quickly as you can and blot the area with a dry towel. Then, create a solution
of equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Spray it on the dirty spot. Let it do its work for a couple of minutes then return to blotting. It should do a lot to remove the worst of the stain.

Tomato Sauce
A big part of the holiday season is food and pasta with tomato sauce is a great way to feed a lot of people efficiently. That almost inevitably means some of it will end up on the carpet. There are a lot of ways to get rid of these stains. For instance, if you need to quickly get small tomato stains out of a carpet you can simply cut a lemon in half and rub it on the spot. The acid from the lemon will help dissolve the tomato stain. Simply let it dry and the stain should be gone.

Juice
If you’ll have all the children of the family over, one of them will probably be careless with his or her juice sooner or later. To get rid of these stains, using a small amount of regular dish soap will often get rid of the stain in most rugs and carpets. Be sure to be gentle and stick to blotting motions, however. You don’t want to damage your carpet.

Dirt
An easy home remedy for tough dirt stains on your carpet is to simply create a mixture of one quarter baking soda, one quarter white vinegar, and one half water. Spray the mixture on the stain and let it soak in. Then, give the spot a gentle scrubbing. The
acid from the vinegar should break up the stain.
